Immodesty Blaize – “Erotica as Art or Erotica as a Sales Tool?”
Immodest is an international showgirl superstar. She has been performing burlesque in London since the mid 90s and has since thrust herself onto the internationally stage, winning many awards and accolades on the way. Hailed as one of the instigators of the burlesque renaissance in Britain, Immodesty brought a mainstream profile to the genre. Although an award-winning director and producer for commercials (having most notably directed the commercials for the Nobel Prizes), she left this “day” job in 2003 to devote herself to the art of burlesque. She has since done much to popularize burlusque, from live shows with Goldfrapp, to taking burlesque back to the historic Windmill Theatre at the West End and featuring on the Channel 4 documentary “Faking It”.
She was the first showgirl to secure an exclusive residency at the eminent Ascot Racecourse in 2007, and in 2008 was the first showgirl to be invited to debate at the Oxford Union. She has spoken on shows as diverse as Woman’s Hour to BBC World Service and is a familiar face on TV, from culture shows to documentaries, even famously having her live performance interrupted by a staged police raid on the Paul O’Grady Show in 2007. Her beauty and hour-glass figure are combined with her smart business and creative mind. Recently, she has written two novels, Tease, published May 2009 and Ambition, published October 2010. Immodesty continues to captivate audiences with her own unique brand of opulent, high voltage glamour.
